Lovikka Mittens | Saturday, Nov 10 & 17, 2-4 pm | $70
The first pair  of Lovikka mittens were knit by Erika Aittamaa in 1892.  The mittens were commissioned by a woodsman who wanted a pair of warm sturdy mittens that would last more than one winter.  Erika knit a pair of thick tightly knit mittens for her customer, however he thought she had ruined his good wool and refused to pay her for the mittens. Erika took the mittens home, washed and fulled them, then brushed them to make them extra warm.  The mittens became a popular item with all of her customers.  The mittens were named after the town in Northern Sweden where they were first made, they are still made today and are a popular item for tourists from all over the world. These durable, warm mittens knit up very quickly. Once fulled and embroidered (or not), they make great a great Christmas knit.

Pattern and  yarns will be provided. Other supplies purchased for the workshop are eligible for a 15% discount.
